ABOUT
​
Patrick is an experienced litigator who specialises in environmental and public law matters. He has led litigation in respect of some of New Zealand's largest and most complex infrastructure projects.
He is also experienced in handling complex litigation including commercial disputes, public law issues, valuation disputes and regulatory prosecutions.
​
Prior to becoming a Barrister Patrick was a partner at two national law firms over 17 years. During this time he headed a large Resource Management & Local Government team and was, at the time of his retirement from partnership, the head of the firm's Auckland litigation and property team.
​
In addition to his legal work Patrick has governance experience as a Trustee of a South Island Regional development fund with assets of over $120M.

Lead Counsel for NZTA at the Board of Inquiry for the East West Link, a $1.8B, 3 year long project which successfully obtained consents for the largest project approved by a BOI process.

Handling a number of complex valuation disputes including pursuant to leases and the Public Works Act (via LVT, arbitration and expert mediation) and in respect of a number of asset classes including recently 17 sheep, beef and cropping blocks in Hawkes Bay. These cases have involved sites with complex lease terms, development rights or potential complicating the valuation process.

Successfully defending EWL BOI decision against various High Court appeals.

Counsel for a group opposing the intensive redevelopment of a large Auckland marina

Legal lead consenting a Drury Quarry and Huntly Municipal Waste facility.

Acting in respect of regulatory prosecutions of NZX listed entities, private corporates and individuals including managing restorative justice initiatives.
